Triangle

Hex cast: 2009

'Triangle'
“I’ll be right back. I’m just gonna go trade in this shotgun for a machete… maybe a hockey mask.”

The charm: There seems to be an ongoing trend of single-word movie titles happening here. Today’s highlight is an interesting little mind-bender in the vein of Memento (another one!) as the main character tries to piece together what appear to be events of her future. The film plays mostly as a mystery even with its strong slasher film elements. A masked psychopath stalks a group of boaters on a seemingly deserted ship. But several clues reveal events as possibly having taken place once, perhaps several times before. Melissa George is quite good as the tense fifth wheel who’s mind seems to be on other things. As the story unravels, some truly unsettling events occur, leading to a disturbing and strange conclusion.

Focal point: Terrified sailing buddy, Sally, climbing over piles of bloody corpses that seem to be replicas of her.

Entrancing trivia: Lindsay Lohan was rumored to play the lead role. She was obviously far too busy.

Speak the words: “Kill them, you have to kill them! It’s the only way to get home! Kill them!”

Companion spell: Below (2002). David Twohy unravels this terrific little mystery that is, aside from being a good horror movie, an exceptionally well done World War II submarine thriller.

Cursed by: Like many movies that involve some element of time travel, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
